The situation
A strong idea without a clear foundation
Digital Atelier started as a strong idea. The founder had a clear vision for an AI-powered fashion stylist. Early designs existed and the direction felt right. But translating that into a real product proved difficult.
AI tools made it easy to generate pieces of the experience. But not a cohesive product. Each iteration created more questions than answers.
How should recommendations actually work? What inputs matter? What does a styling experience feel like when it is intelligent, but still understandable and trustworthy?
The risk was not the idea. It was building disconnected pieces without a clear product foundation.

Where BRIK came in
This was not just a design execution problem. It was a product definition problem.
The need was to step back, align the product from the start, and move forward with a clear path that connected product strategy, user experience, and technical feasibility all in one place.
Rather than continuing to iterate on isolated designs or AI outputs, the focus shifted to defining the product as a system before moving further into design or build.
User flow
End-to-end journey from discovery to repeat experience
Every touchpoint mapped before a screen was built. The flow defined how intelligence would surface across the full lifecycle, not just the moment of recommendation.

The approach
Working in a tight loop across strategy, design, and engineering
From day one, the work moved across all three disciplines simultaneously, not in sequence. Each informed the others.
01 Clarifying the product foundation
We translated the initial idea into a clear product direction before a single new screen was designed.
- What the core styling experience should be
- What inputs the system needs from users
- How recommendations are generated and refined
- Where AI adds value, and where it should stay invisible
02 Designing the experience as a system
Instead of designing screens, we designed the full experience: flows, states, and interaction patterns across every stage.
- User flows from onboarding to outfit recommendations
- States for different levels of input and engagement
- How users explore, refine, and trust recommendations
- Interaction patterns that make AI feel intuitive, not unpredictable
03 Shaping technical feasibility early
AI-driven products can break down quickly without the right structure. We defined constraints before they became problems.
- How the recommendation system should be structured
- What data is required to generate meaningful outputs
- How to support iteration as the product evolves
- Where constraints exist and how to design within them
04 Building a real, working product
Rather than stopping at design, we moved into building, so decisions could be based on behavior rather than assumptions.
- A functional version of the styling experience
- Real interactions with AI-generated recommendations
- A product that could be tested and refined in real conditions
Brand identity
A visual language built for editorial luxury
The brand system was defined alongside the product. Typography, colour, and components treated as a single connected system, not a separate deliverable.

THE FUTURE OF CURATION
Voice & tone
- Speak with quiet confidence. Refined, not boastful.
- Use editorial language: curate, elevate, atelier, bespoke
- Position AI as a collaborator, not a replacement for taste
- Use generic tech language: algorithm, data-driven, optimise
- Lead with features before leading with feeling
What changed
From fragmented exploration to a coherent product
Before - An idea with fragmented design exploration
- AI outputs without a product structure
- More questions with each iteration
- No clear path from idea to build
After - A clearly defined product with a cohesive experience
- A system connecting user input, AI logic, and output
- A real product foundation built to iterate and scale
- Decisions grounded in behavior, not assumptions
The outcome
A product that can grow
Digital Atelier moved forward with clarity: a validated direction, a working product, and the foundation to keep building.
Validated product direction
Strategy, design, and engineering aligned before a line of production code was written.
Fully designed experience
A cohesive system across every state, from onboarding through recommendations and social styling.
A working product
Real interactions. Real AI outputs. A foundation built to be tested, refined, and scaled intentionally.
The product
Desktop and mobile, designed as one
Both surfaces built in parallel, not adapted from one to the other. The desktop and mobile experiences share the same design language while each earning its own layout logic.
